Shown here sailing with the mains'l pulled in. A servo is used with a variable revolution drum.
A Cruising Bawley. A Cruising Bawley.
Based on a Tony Williams GRP hull, and using an original working bawley sail plan, this model was built from memories of how cabin cruisers were made in Appledore over 50 years ago. That means, there are no drawings to go from. The sails are set on horses with bowsies, and the mains'l can be brailed.( Pulled in at the centre, which was the method used on the original vessels. )

Bawley Conversion. Bawley Conversion.
This model, made by Ray Dymond, carries the original bawley sail plan, but was built as a sailing cruiser to Ray's own design, based on a Tony Williams hull. The larger removeable cabin gives better access to the electrics. The sails, as in other Club models, were made by Ray Davis of Bristol.
"Valdivia" "Valdivia"
This fine radio controlled model was made by Robin Harker from a Robbe kit.
Harwich Bawley Harwich Bawley
Maiden Voyage @ Kenwith Castle, 9th Feb. 04. Scratch built on a Tony Williams GRP hull. The deck, laid on a camber, is from pitch pine; as are the mast, bowsprit and boom: the wood coming from a 60yr old fishing trawler. The capping rail is one piece English elm, and the fish hold and cockpit panelled in elm with oak flooring. Deadeyes were made from hickory and running blocks from oak. The sails are Egyptian cotton, made by Ray Davis of Nailsea, nr. Bristol, who also made the sails for "Cariad".

Pilot Cutter 'Cariad' leading the Mevagissey Lugger 'Our Daddy', built by Looe MBC Secretary Harry Southern, which is being followed by another Pilot Cutter, 'Marguerite', built by Ian Blagdon of Plymouth
The Pilot Cutter 'Breeze' owned & built by Ian Blagdon of Plymouth, leads the way from a Colin Archer craft built by Ray Davis from Nailsea, near Bristol.
The model is plank on frame from drawings supplied by Chris Brown of Bridgend, S. Wales. Chris will supply any stage, up to the complete kit. This one however is completely hand made, including the rigging blocks, and the sails were hand sewn by Ray Davis of the Woodspring MSC at Portishead

Ready for Launching Ready for Launching
A very useful carrying & launching frame can be made from 15mm copper pipe and pre-soldered 'yorkshire' fittings. The side supports are sleeved with pipe insulation which means that the frame will float when in the water and not disappear out of site if you let go. Lifting strops are not necessary and a frame can be made to suit any model
