The Ilfracombe & District Anglers Association was founded on the 31st October 1929. The objects of the Association are to obtain greater facilities for anglers, promote social intercourse amongst its members, promote the art of angling and to increase the importance of Ilfracombe as a resort for angling. The local harbour is the focal point of interest, steeped in its maritime history as a working port. The harbour is base to the local charter boat fleet, an array of vessels that meet strict licensing and safety regulations. Reef, mud/sand banks, rough and wrecks are all within easy stricking distance of the port, producing Bass, Pollack, Wrasse, at least four species of Ray, Cod, Conger, Turbot and Dabs. All these species and more are catchable from the various shore marks close by.
