Revd. Peter Bowers has now taken his last service at St Paul, six months after announcing his intention to retire. Sadness at his leaving has been keenly felt amongst our congregation but it might not be very long before his replacement arrives.

Farewell, Peter!
After 21 years of devoted service in North Devon our Rector, The Reverend Prebendary Peter Bowers, has taken his retirement. He and his wife Jane will move to Bridlington at the end of July 2010, bringing them closer to their families.
For twelve of the latter years that Peter ministered in this area, he was Rector of St Paul, Landkey as well as Swimbridge, West Buckland and Gunn. His final service at St Paul was Holy Communion on Sunday 18th July and the occasion was marked afterwards with a small party and presentations. While the sadness at the impending departure of a much-loved minister was keenly felt by all those gathered, there was also a sense of joy and gratitude for the love of God that he has helped to bring amongst us and which should remain even though he will no longer be with us.
Peter leaves us at a time when the process of appointing his replacement is well under way. The congregations and clergy of the parishes that make up our Benefice have been consulted and their views on the type of church that we should be in the years ahead now form the basis upon which the new incumbent is likely to be selected.
During the period when we will be without a Rector, Sunday services will continue to be held as normal and will be led by our retired priests, Revd. Geoffrey Squire and Revd. Bruce Dixon. The congregations of all our churches know Geoffrey and Bruce well and we anticipate that church life will, as a result, continue as normally as possible until we welcome our new Rector, possibly early in 2011.
